Dynex VR Sustained-Release Capsules are used for:

Relieving unproductive cough and reducing mucus in the chest due to colds, flu, or hay fever. It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.

Dynex VR Sustained-Release Capsules are a cough suppressant and expectorant combination. The cough suppressant works in the brain to help decrease the cough reflex. The expectorant works by thinning mucus (phlegm) in the lungs, making it less sticky and easier to cough up. This makes coughs more productive.

Do NOT use Dynex VR Sustained-Release Capsules if:

you are allergic to any ingredient in Dynex VR Sustained-Release Capsules

Before using Dynex VR Sustained-Release Capsules:

Some medical conditions may interact with Dynex VR Sustained-Release Capsules. Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have any medical conditions, especially if any of the following apply to you:

if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding
if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement
if you have allergies to medicines, foods, or other substances
if you have chronic cough due to smoking, asthma, chronic bronchitis, or emphysema, or if your cough produces large amounts of mucus
if you have a history of heart problems, high blood pressure, prostate problems, an overactive thyroid, diabetes, or glaucoma

How to use Dynex VR Sustained-Release Capsules:

Use Dynex VR Sustained-Release Capsules as directed by your doctor. Check the label on the medicine for exact dosing instructions.

Dynex VR Sustained-Release Capsules may be taken with or without food.
Drinking extra fluids while you are taking Dynex VR Sustained-Release Capsules are recommended. Check with your doctor for instructions.
Swallow Dynex VR Sustained-Release Capsules whole. Do not break, crush, or chew before swallowing.
If you miss a dose of Dynex VR Sustained-Release Capsules and you are taking it regularly, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.

Important safety information:

Dynex VR Sustained-Release Capsules may cause drowsiness. Do not drive, operate machinery, or do anything else that could be dangerous until you know how you react to Dynex VR Sustained-Release Capsules. Using Dynex VR Sustained-Release Capsules alone, with certain other medicines, or with alcohol may lessen your ability to drive or perform other potentially dangerous tasks.
Avoid drinking alcohol or taking other medications that cause drowsiness (eg, sedatives, tranquilizers) while taking Dynex VR Sustained-Release Capsules. Dynex VR Sustained-Release Capsules will add to the effects of alcohol and other depressants. Ask your pharmacist if you have questions about which medicines are depressants.
If cough persists for more than 1 week or is accompanied by a fever, contact your health care provider. A persistent cough could be a sign of a serious condition.
Dynex VR Sustained-Release Capsules are not recommended for use in CHILDREN younger than 6 years of age. Safety and effectiveness in this age group have not been confirmed.
PREGNANCY and BREAST-FEEDING: If you become pregnant, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using Dynex VR Sustained-Release Capsules during pregnancy. It is unknown if Dynex VR Sustained-Release Capsules are excreted in breast milk. If you are or will be breast-feeding while you are using Dynex VR Sustained-Release Capsules, check with your doctor or pharmacist to discuss the risks to your baby.

Possible side effects of Dynex VR Sustained-Release Capsules:

All medicines may cause side effects, but many people have no, or minor, side effects. Check with your doctor if any of these most COMMON side effects persist or become bothersome:

Drowsiness; dry mouth, nose, or throat; upset stomach.

Seek medical attention right away if any of these SEVERE side effects occur:

Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue).

What is dyphylline?

Dyphylline is a bronchodilator. Dyphylline works in several ways: It relaxes muscles in your lungs and chest to allow more air in, it decreases the sensitivity of your lungs to allergens and other substances that cause inflammation, and it increases the contractions of your diaphragm to draw more air into the lungs.

Dyphylline is used to treat the symptoms of asthma, bronchitis, and emphysema.

Dyphylline may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide.

What is the most important information I should know about dyphylline?

Call your doctor right away if you experience nausea, vomiting, insomnia, restlessness, seizures, an increased heart rate, or a headache. These could be signs of too much dyphylline in your blood.

Do not start or stop smoking without your doctor’s knowledge. Smoking may affect your dosage.

Do not take more of this medicine than is prescribed without consulting your doctor. Seek medical attention if you are having increasing difficulty breathing.

Who should not take dyphylline?

Before taking this medication, tell your doctor if you have

a stomach ulcer;
seizures;
high blood pressure, a heart condition, or any type of heart disease;
fluid in your lungs;
a thyroid condition;
liver disease; or
kidney disease.

You may not be able to take dyphylline, or you may require a lower dose or special monitoring during treatment if you have any of the conditions listed above.

Dyphylline is in the FDA pregnancy category C. This means that it is not known whether dyphylline will harm an unborn baby. Do not take this medication without first talking to your doctor if you are pregnant. Dyphylline passes into breast milk and could affect a nursing baby. Do not take dyphylline without first talking to your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby. If you are over 60 years of age, you may be more likely to experience side effects from dyphylline. You may require a lower dose of this medication.

How should I take dyphylline?

Take dyphylline exactly as directed by your doctor. If you do not understand these directions, ask your pharmacist, nurse, or doctor to explain them to you.

Take each dose with a full glass of water. You can take dyphylline with food to lessen stomach upset.

Take your doses at the same time every day to keep a constant level of dyphylline in your blood.

Shake the liquid forms of this medication well before use. To ensure that you get a correct dose, measure the liquid with a dose-measuring cup or spoon, not a regular tablespoon. If a spoon or cup is not provided with the medication and you do not have one, ask your pharmacist where you can get one.

Do not switch to another brand or a generic form of dyphylline without the approval of your doctor.

Store dyphylline at room temperature away from moisture and heat.

What happens if I miss a dose?

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next regularly scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and take the next one as directed. Do not take a double dose of this medication.

What happens if I overdose?

Seek emergency medical attention.

Symptoms of a dyphylline overdose include nausea, vomiting, headache, insomnia, tremor (shaking hands or twitching,), restlessness, seizures, and irregular heartbeats.

What should I avoid while taking dyphylline?

Use caution when driving, operating machinery, or performing other hazardous activities. Dyphylline may cause dizziness or drowsiness. If you experience dizziness or drowsiness, avoid these activities.

Do not start or stop smoking without the approval of your doctor. Smoking changes the way your body uses dyphylline, and you may need a dose adjustment.

Avoid changing your dose or changing the time of your daily doses.

Do not change the brand, generic form, or formulation (tablet, capsule, liquid) of dyphylline that you are taking without the approval of your doctor. Different brands or formulations may require different dosages.

Avoid eating excessive amounts of grilled or char-broiled foods. Doing so may also change the dose of dyphylline that you need.

Avoid caffeinated beverages such as coffee, tea, and cola. Dyphylline is related chemically to caffeine, and you may experience some side effects if you consume too much caffeine.

Dyphylline side effects

If you experience any of the following serious side effects, stop taking dyphylline and seek emergency medical attention:

an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of your throat; swelling of your lips, tongue, or face; or hives);
seizures;
increased or irregular heartbeats; or
severe nausea or vomiting.

Other, less serious side effects may occur although they are not common at appropriate doses. Continue to take dyphylline and talk to your doctor if you experience

slight nausea, decreased appetite, or weight loss;
restlessness, tremor, or insomnia; or
headache, lightheadedness, or dizziness.

Side effects other than those listed here may also occur. Talk to your doctor about any side effect that seems unusual or that is especially bothersome. You may report side effects to FDA at 1-800-FDA-1088.

What other drugs will affect dyphylline?

Dyphylline interacts with many other drugs. Tell your doctor and pharmacist about all other medications that you are taking, including herbal remedies, vitamins, and other nonprescription items.

The following drugs may increase the levels of dyphylline in your blood, leading to dangerous side effects:

alcohol;
cimetidine (Tagamet, Tagamet HB);
fluoroquinolone antibiotics such as enoxacin (Penetrex), lomefloxacin (Maxaquin), ciprofloxacin (Cipro), norfloxacin (Noroxin), and ofloxacin (Floxin);
clarithromycin (Biaxin) and erythromycin (Ery-Tab, E.E.S., E-Mycin, others);
disulfiram (Antabuse);
estrogens (Ogen, Premarin, and many other types);
fluvoxamine (Luvox);
methotrexate (Folex, Rheumatrex);
mexiletine (Mexitil) and propafenone (Rythmol);
propranolol (Inderal);
tacrine (Cognex);
ticlopidine (Ticlid); and
verapamil (Verelan, Calan, Isoptin).

The following drugs may decrease dyphylline levels in your blood, leading to poor asthma control:

aminoglutethimide (Cytadren),
carbamazepine (Tegretol),
isoproterenol (Isuprel),
moricizine (Ethmozine),
phenobarbital (Luminal, Solfoton),
phenytoin (Dilantin),
rifampin (Rifadin), and
sucralfate (Carafate).

Uses For dyphylline

Dyphylline is used to treat and/or prevent the symptoms of bronchial asthma, chronic bronchitis, and emphysema. It works by opening up the bronchial tubes (air passages of the lungs) and increasing the flow of air through them.

Before Using dyphylline

In deciding to use a medicine, the risks of taking the medicine must be weighed against the good it will do. This is a decision you and your doctor will make. For dyphylline, the following should be considered:

Allergies

Tell your doctor if you have ever had any unusual or allergic reaction to dyphylline or any other medicines. Also tell your health care professional if you have any other types of allergies, such as to foods, dyes, preservatives, or animals. For non-prescription products, read the label or package ingredients carefully.

Pediatric

Use of other bronchodilator medicines is preferred.

Geriatric

As in younger patients, use of other bronchodilator medicines is preferred. Also, older patients with kidney disease may require a lower dose of dyphylline than do older adults without kidney disease.

Pregnancy

All Trimesters	C	Animal studies have shown an adverse effect and there are no adequate studies in pregnant women OR no animal studies have been conducted and there are no adequate studies in pregnant women.

Breast Feeding

There are no adequate studies in women for determining infant risk when using this medication during breastfeeding. Weigh the potential benefits against the potential risks before taking this medication while breastfeeding.

Interactions with Medicines

Although certain medicines should not be used together at all, in other cases two different medicines may be used together even if an interaction might occur. In these cases, your doctor may want to change the dose, or other precautions may be necessary. Tell your healthcare professional if you are taking any other prescription or nonprescription (over-the-counter [OTC]) medicine.

Interactions with Food/Tobacco/Alcohol

Certain medicines should not be used at or around the time of eating food or eating certain types of food since interactions may occur. Using alcohol or tobacco with certain medicines may also cause interactions to occur. Discuss with your healthcare professional the use of your medicine with food, alcohol, or tobacco.

Proper Use of dyphylline

For patients taking dyphylline by mouth:

dyphylline works best when there is a constant amount in the blood. To help keep the amount constant, dyphylline must be taken at regularly spaced times, as ordered by your doctor. Do not miss any doses.
dyphylline also works best when taken with a glass of water on an empty stomach (either 30 minutes to 1 hour before meals or 2 hours after meals). However, in some cases your doctor may want you to take dyphylline with meals or right after meals to lessen stomach upset.

Dosing

The dose of dyphylline will be different for different patients. Follow your doctor’s orders or the directions on the label. The following information includes only the average doses of dyphylline. If your dose is different, do not change it unless your doctor tells you to do so.

The amount of medicine that you take depends on the strength of the medicine. Also, the number of doses you take each day, the time allowed between doses, and the length of time you take the medicine depend on the medical problem for which you are using the medicine.

For oral dosage forms (elixir or tablets):
- For asthma, bronchitis, or emphysema:
  - Adults—Dose is based on body weight. The usual dose is 15 milligrams (mg) per kilogram (6.8 mg per pound) of body weight up to four times a day (about six hours apart).
  - Children—Dose must be determined by your doctor.

Missed Dose

If you miss a dose of dyphylline, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not double doses.

Storage

Store the medicine in a closed container at room temperature, away from heat, moisture, and direct light. Do not refrigerate. Keep from freezing.

Keep out of the reach of children.

Do not keep outdated medicine or medicine no longer needed.

Precautions While Using dyphylline

Your doctor should check your progress at regular visits, especially during the first few weeks of your treatment with dyphylline.

Before you have any kind of surgery that requires general anesthesia, tell the medical doctor in charge that you are using dyphylline.

dyphylline Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

What is Dynacirc CR (isradipine)?

Isradipine is in a group of drugs called calcium channel blockers. It works by relaxing the muscles of your heart and blood vessels.

Isradipine is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). It is sometimes given with other blood pressure medications.

Isradipine may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide.

What is the most important information I should know about Dynacirc CR (isradipine)?

You should not take this medication if you are allergic to isradipine.

Before taking isradipine, tell your doctor if you have kidney or liver disease, congestive heart failure, or a narrowing or blockage in your digestive tract.

Do not crush, chew, or break an extended-release tablet. Swallow the pill whole. Breaking the pill may cause too much of the drug to be released at one time. Isradipine can cause side effects that may impair your thinking or reactions. Be careful if you drive or do anything that requires you to be awake and alert.

Some tablet forms of isradipine are made with a shell that is not absorbed or melted in the body. Therefore, you may see what looks like part of a tablet in your stool. This is a normal side effect of isradipine and will not make the medication less effective.

Keep using this medicine as directed, even if you feel well. High blood pressure often has no symptoms, so you may not know when your blood pressure is high. You may need to use blood pressure medication for the rest of your life.

To be sure this medication is helping your condition, your blood pressure will need to be checked on a regular basis. Do not miss any scheduled appointments.

You should not take this medication if you are allergic to isradipine.

DynaCirc CR Extended-Release Tablets are used for:

Treating high blood pressure. DynaCirc CR Extended-Release Tablets may be used alone on in combination with other high blood pressure medications. It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.

DynaCirc CR Extended-Release Tablets are a calcium channel blocker. It works by dilating (widening) the arteries.

Do NOT use DynaCirc CR Extended-Release Tablets if:

you are allergic to any ingredient in DynaCirc CR Extended-Release Tablets or other dihydropyridines (eg, amlodipine)

Contact your doctor or health care provider right away if any of these apply to you.

Before using DynaCirc CR Extended-Release Tablets:

Some medical conditions may interact with DynaCirc CR Extended-Release Tablets. Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have any medical conditions, especially if any of the following apply to you:

if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding

Take DynaCirc CR Extended-Release Tablets by mouth with or without food.
Swallow DynaCirc CR Extended-Release Tablets whole. Do not break, crush, or chew before swallowing.
Taking DynaCirc CR Extended-Release Tablets at the same time each day will help you remember to take it.
Continue to use DynaCirc CR Extended-Release Tablets even if you feel well. Do not miss any doses.
If you miss a dose of DynaCirc CR Extended-Release Tablets, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.

Important safety information:

Patients who take medicine for high blood pressure often feel tired or run down for a few weeks after starting treatment. Be sure to take your medicine even if you may not feel “normal. “Tell your doctor if you develop any new symptoms.
You may notice the tablet shell in your stool . This is normal and not a cause for concern.
Use DynaCirc CR Extended-Release Tablets with caution in the ELDERLY; they may be more sensitive to its effects.
DynaCirc CR Extended-Release Tablets should be used with extreme caution in CHILDREN; safety and effectiveness in children have not been confirmed.

Constipation; dizziness; flushing; headache; heartburn; lightheadedness; sinus infection; stomach upset; tiredness; weakness.

Dynahist ER Sustained-Release Capsules are an antihistamine and decongestant combination. The antihistamine works by blocking the action of histamine, which helps reduce symptoms such as watery eyes and sneezing. The decongestant promotes sinus and nasal drainage, relieving congestion and pressure.

Do NOT use Dynahist ER Sustained-Release Capsules if:

you are allergic to any ingredient in Dynahist ER Sustained-Release Capsules

What is Dynapen (dicloxacillin)?

Dicloxacillin is an antibiotic in the penicillin group of drugs. It fights bacteria in your body.

Dicloxacillin is used to treat many different types of infections caused by bacteria such as bronchitis, pneumonia, or staphylococcal (also called “staph”) infections.

Dicloxacillin may also be used for other purposes not listed in this medication guide.

What is the most important information I should know about Dynapen (dicloxacillin)?

Do not use this medication if you are allergic to dicloxacillin or to any other penicillin antibiotic, such as amoxicillin (Amoxil), ampicillin (Omnipen, Principen), carbenicillin (Geocillin), oxacillin (Bactocill), penicillin (Beepen-VK, Ledercillin VK, Pen-V, Pen-Vee K, Pfizerpen, V-Cillin K, Veetids), and others.

Before using dicloxacillin, tell your doctor if you are allergic to cephalosporins such as Ceclor, Ceftin, Duricef, Keflex, and others, or if you have asthma, liver disease, kidney disease, or a history of any type of allergy.

Dicloxacillin can make birth control pills less effective, which may result in pregnancy. Before taking dicloxacillin, tell your doctor if you use birth control pills. Take this medication for the entire length of time prescribed by your doctor. Your symptoms may get better before the infection is completely treated. Dicloxacillin will not treat a viral infection such as the common cold or flu. Do not share this medication with another person, even if they have the same symptoms you have.

Antibiotic medicines can cause diarrhea, which may be a sign of a new infection. If you have diarrhea that is watery or has blood in it, call your doctor. Do not use any medicine to stop the diarrhea unless your doctor has told you to.

What should I discuss with my healthcare provider before taking Dynapen (dicloxacillin)?

Do not use this medication if you are allergic to dicloxacillin or to any other penicillin antibiotic, such as:

How should I take Dynapen (dicloxacillin)?

Take the medicine with a full glass of water. Dicloxacillin should be taken on an empty stomach, at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after eating a meal.

To be sure this medication is helping your condition, your blood will need to be tested on a regular basis. Your kidney or liver function may also need to be tested. Do not miss any scheduled visits to your doctor.

Take this medication for the entire length of time prescribed by your doctor. Your symptoms may get better before the infection is completely treated. Dicloxacillin will not treat a viral infection such as the common cold or flu. Do not share this medication with another person, even if they have the same symptoms you have.

nausea, stomach pain, low fever, loss of appetite, dark urine, clay-colored stools, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes);
diarrhea that is watery or bloody;
fever, chills, body aches, flu symptoms;
easy bruising or bleeding, unusual weakness;
urinating less than usual or not at all;
severe skin rash, itching, or peeling;
agitation, confusion, unusual thoughts or behavior; or
seizure (black-out or convulsions).

Less serious side effects may include:

nausea, vomiting, stomach pain;
vaginal itching or discharge;
headache;
swollen, black, or “hairy” tongue; or
thrush (white patches or inside your mouth or throat).

Uses For Dyna-Hex2

Chlorhexidine belongs to a group of medicines called antiseptic antibacterial agents. It is used to clean the skin after an injury, before surgery, or before an injection. It works by killing or preventing the growth of bacteria on the skin.

Before Using Dyna-Hex2

In deciding to use a medicine, the risks of taking the medicine must be weighed against the good it will do. This is a decision you and your doctor will make. For this medicine, the following should be considered:

Allergies

Tell your doctor if you have ever had any unusual or allergic reaction to this medicine or any other medicines. Also tell your health care professional if you have any other types of allergies, such as to foods, dyes, preservatives, or animals. For non-prescription products, read the label or package ingredients carefully.

Pediatric

Because of chlorhexidine’s potential for causing excessive skin irritation and the risk of increased absorption through the skin, use in children less than 2 months of age is not recommended.

Geriatric

No information is available on the relationship of age to the effects of chlorhexidine in geriatric patients.

Proper Use of chlorhexidine

This section provides information on the proper use of a number of products that contain chlorhexidine. It may not be specific to Dyna-Hex2. Please read with care.

It is very important that you use this medicine only as directed by your doctor. Do not use more of it, do not use it more often, and do not use it for a longer time than your doctor ordered. To do so may cause irritation of the skin.

Chlorhexidine should only be used on the skin. Do not swallow it or get it in the eyes, ears, mouth, nose, genital area (sex organs), or anal area. Do not use it on skin areas that have cuts or scrapes. If it does get on these areas, rinse it off right away.

Follow your doctor’s instructions about how to clean and care for your skin before and after you use this medicine. Make sure you understand all of the directions, and ask questions if you find something is not clear.

The Chloraprep® products contain large amounts of alcohol (70%) and are flammable. Do not use them or store them near a flame, heater, or electrical device. Do not use the medicine while you are smoking. Apply the medicine in a well-ventilated place. Do not cover the treated area until the medicine is completely dry. This is usually 3 minutes or longer for hairless skin. If you must apply the medicine to a hairy area of the body, wipe the area with a towel to remove extra medicine.

Different forms of the medicine are used in different ways. Be sure you understand the directions for the product you are given before you use it. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions.

To use this medicine as a wound cleanser and general skin cleanser:
- Rinse the area to be cleaned with water.
- Apply the smallest amount of chlorhexidine needed to cover the skin or wound area and wash gently.
- Thoroughly rinse the area again with water.

Dosing

The dose of this medicine will be different for different patients. Follow your doctor’s orders or the directions on the label. The following information includes only the average doses of this medicine. If your dose is different, do not change it unless your doctor tells you to do so.

For topical dosage form (solution or swabstick applicator):
- For cleaning the skin or wounds:
  - Adults and children 2 months of age and older—Use when necessary, according to the directions on the label or your doctor’s instructions.
  - Children younger than 2 months of age—Use is not recommended.

Storage

Ask your healthcare professional how you should dispose of any medicine you do not use.

Keep out of the reach of children.

Do not keep outdated medicine or medicine no longer needed.

Store the medicine in a closed container at room temperature, away from heat, moisture, and direct light. Keep from freezing.

Precautions While Using Dyna-Hex2

Check with your doctor if your skin problem becomes worse. Call your doctor if you have skin irritation that does not go away, such as redness, itching, or burning in the area where you used this medicine.

This medicine should not be used on a regular basis on large areas of the body. Follow your doctor’s instructions about how long to use this medicine.

This medicine may cause serious and permanent injury when placed in the eyes, ears, or mouth. Carefully follow all instructions before using this medicine to prevent serious side effects.

This medicine may cause a brown stain on clothing when chlorine is also present. These stains may not be removed by regular washing. Use only non-chlorine products to wash or bleach fabrics exposed to this medicine. If the medicine has directions on the package about washing fabrics, follow them carefully.

Dyna-Hex2 Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

Incidence not known

Blistering, burning, itching, peeling, skin rash, redness, swelling, or other signs of irritation on the skin
swelling of the face, hands, or feet
trouble breathing

What is Dynabac (dirithromycin)?

Dirithromycin is in a class of drugs called macrolide antibiotics. Dirithromycin fights bacteria in your body.

Dirithromycin is used to treat many different types of bacterial infections, such as bronchitis, pneumonia, tonsillitis, and skin infections.

Dirithromycin may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide.

What is the most important information I should know about Dynabac (dirithromycin)?

Take all of the dirithromycin that has been prescribed for you even if you begin to feel better. Your symptoms may start to improve before the infection is completely treated. Take dirithromycin with food or within 1 hour of eating to increase the absorption of the drug by your body. Do not break, crush, or chew the tablets. Swallow them whole.

Who should not take Dynabac (dirithromycin)?

Before taking dirithromycin, tell your doctor if you have liver disease. You may not be able to take dirithromycin, or you may require a lower dose or special monitoring during therapy.

Dirithromycin is in the FDA pregnancy category C. This means that it is not known whether dirithromycin will harm an unborn baby. Do not take this medication without first talking to your doctor if you are pregnant. It is not known whether dirithromycin passes into breast milk. Do not take this medication without first talking to your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby. Dirithromycin has not been approved for use in children younger than 12 years of age.

How should I take Dynabac (dirithromycin)?

Take dirithromycin exactly as directed by your doctor. If you do not understand these instructions, ask your pharmacist, nurse, or doctor to explain them to you.

Take each dose with a full glass (8 ounces) of water. Take dirithromycin with food or milk to increase the absorption of the drug into your body. Do not break, crush, or chew the tablets. Swallow them whole. Take all of the dirithromycin that has been prescribed for you even if you begin to feel better. Your symptoms may start to improve before the infection is completely treated. Store this medication at room temperature away from moisture and heat.

Symptoms of a dirithromycin overdose include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal discomfort.

What should I avoid while taking Dynabac (dirithromycin)?

Avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight. Dirithromycin may increase the sensitivity of your skin to sunlight. Use a sunscreen and wear protective clothing when exposure to the sun is unavoidable.

Dynabac (dirithromycin) side effects

If you experience any of the following serious side effects, stop taking dirithromycin and seek emergency medical attention:

an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of your throat; swelling of your lips, tongue, or face; or hives); or
liver damage (yellowing of the skin or eyes, nausea, abdominal pain or discomfort, unusual bleeding or bruising, severe fatigue).

Other, less serious side effects may be more likely to occur. Continue to take dirithromycin and talk to your doctor if you experience

nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or abdominal pain;
dizziness, fatigue, or headache;
vaginal yeast infection; or
a rash.

Side effects other than those listed here may also occur. Talk to your doctor about any side effect that seems unusual or that is especially bothersome.

What other drugs will affect Dynabac (dirithromycin)?

Other drugs in the same class as dirithromycin have caused dangerous side effects when taken with terfenadine (Seldane). Although dirithromycin has not caused the same reaction, it should be used cautiously if at all while you are taking terfenadine (Seldane).

Before taking this medication, tell your doctor if you are taking any of the following drugs:

seizure medications such as carbamazepine (Tegretol), phenytoin (Dilantin), and valproic acid (Depakote, Depakene) may or may not be affected. Since these drugs are so important, your doctor may want to perform some special blood-monitoring tests.
anticoagulants (blood thinners) such as warfarin (Coumadin). These medications may have an increased effect, which could lead to bleeding. Your doctor may want to monitor your blood clotting.
heart medications for irregular heartbeats, such as digoxin (Lanoxin). These drugs may also have an increased effect. Your doctor may want to monitor your blood levels more closely.
other antibiotics. Do not use other antibiotics unless they are prescribed by your doctor.

Drugs other than those listed here may also interact with dirithromycin. Talk to your doctor and pharmacist before taking any prescription or over-the-counter medicines.
