Synalgos-DC
30/06/10
Generic Name: aspirin, caffeine, and dihydrocodeine (AS pir in, KAF een, and dye HYE dro KOE deen)
Brand Names: Synalgos-DC
What is Synalgos-DC (aspirin, caffeine, and dihydrocodeine)?
Aspirin is in a group of drugs called salicylates (sa-LIS-il-ates). It works by reducing substances in the body that cause pain, fever, and inflammation.
Caffeine is a central nervous system stimulant. It relaxes muscle contractions in blood vessels to improve blood flow.
Dihydrocodeine is related to codeine. It is in a group of drugs called narcotic pain relievers.
The combination of aspirin, caffeine, and dihydrocodeine is used to treat moderate to severe pain.
Aspirin, caffeine, and dihydrocodeine may also be used for other purposes not listed in this medication guide.
What is the most important information I should know about Synalgos-DC (aspirin, caffeine, and dihydrocodeine)?
Do not use this medication if you have used an MAO inhibitor such as isocarboxazid (Marplan), phenelzine (Nardil), rasagiline (Azilect), selegiline (Eldepryl, Emsam), or tranylcypromine (Parnate) within the past 14 days. Serious, life-threatening side effects can occur if you take aspirin, caffeine, and dihydrocodeine before the MAO inhibitor has cleared from your body. Aspirin should not be given to a child or teenager who has a fever, especially if the child also has flu symptoms or chicken pox. Aspirin can cause a serious and sometimes fatal condition called Reye’s syndrome in children. Do not use this medication if you are allergic to aspirin, caffeine, or dihydrocodeine, or if you have porphyria, a stomach ulcer, a bleeding or blood clotting disorder; or if you are allergic to any NSAID (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug). Do not use any other over-the-counter cold, flu, or pain medication without first asking your doctor or pharmacist. If you take certain products together you may accidentally take too much of a certain drug. Avoid drinking alcohol while taking this medication. Alcohol may increase your risk of stomach bleeding while you are taking aspirin. Dihydrocodeine may be habit-forming and should be used only by the person this medicine was prescribed for. This medication should never be given to another person, especially someone who has a history of drug abuse or addiction. Keep the medication in a secure place where others cannot get to it.
What should I discuss with my healthcare provider before taking Synalgos-DC (aspirin, caffeine, and dihydrocodeine)?

This medication should never be given to another person, especially someone who has a history of drug abuse or addiction. Keep the medication in a secure place where others cannot get to it. FDA pregnancy category C. Aspirin may be harmful to an unborn baby’s heart, and may also reduce birth weight or have other dangerous effects. Dihydrocodeine could cause addiction or withdrawal symptoms in a newborn if the mother takes the medicine during pregnancy. Do not take aspirin, caffeine, and dihydrocodeine without telling your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant during treatment. Dihydrocodeine may also cause addiction and withdrawal symptoms in a nursing infant. Do not use this medication without telling your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby. Older adults may be more likely to have side effects from this medication.

Take this medication exactly as it was prescribed for you. Do not take it in larger amounts, or use it for longer than recommended by your doctor. Follow the directions on your prescription label. Tell your doctor if the medicine seems to stop working as well in relieving your pain.
Take with food or milk to ease stomach upset. You may have withdrawal symptoms when you stop using aspirin, caffeine, and dihydrocodeine after using it over a long period of time. Do not stop using this medication suddenly without first talking to your doctor. You may need to use less and less before you stop the medication completely.
If you need to have any type of surgery, tell the surgeon ahead of time that you are using aspirin, caffeine, and dihydrocodeine. You may need to stop using the medicine for a short time.

This medication can cause side effects that may impair your thinking or reactions. Be careful if you drive or do anything that requires you to be awake and alert. Do not use any other over-the-counter cold, flu, or pain medication without first asking your doctor or pharmacist. Aspirin and caffeine are contained in many medicines available over the counter. If you take certain products together you may accidentally take too much of a certain drug. Read the label of any other medicine you are using to see if it contains aspirin or caffeine. Avoid drinking alcohol while taking this medication. Alcohol may increase your risk of stomach bleeding while you are taking aspirin.
Avoid taking diet pills, caffeine pills, or other stimulants (such as ADHD medications) without your doctor’s advice.
Cold or allergy medicine, narcotic pain medicine, sleeping pills, muscle relaxers, antidepressants, or seizure medication can add to sleepiness caused by dihydrocodeine, or could slow your breathing. This medicine is a corticosteroid (cortisone-like medicine or steroid).

Before Using Synalar Mild
In deciding to use a medicine, the risks of taking the medicine must be weighed against the good it will do. This is a decision you and your doctor will make. For this medicine, the following should be considered:
Allergies
Tell your doctor if you have ever had any unusual or allergic reaction to this medicine or any other medicines. Also tell your health care professional if you have any other types of allergies, such as to foods, dyes, preservatives, or animals. For non-prescription products, read the label or package ingredients carefully.
Pediatric
Appropriate studies performed to date have not demonstrated pediatric-specific problems that would limit the usefulness of fluocinolone topical in the pediatric population. However, because of this medicine’s toxicity, it should be used with caution. Children may absorb large amounts through the skin, which can cause serious side effects. If your child is using this medicine, follow your doctor’s instructions very carefully. For the body oil form, safety and efficacy in children 3 months of age and younger have not been established.
Geriatric
No information is available on the relationship of age to the effects of fluocinolone topical in geriatric patients.
Interactions with Medicines
Although certain medicines should not be used together at all, in other cases two different medicines may be used together even if an interaction might occur. In these cases, your doctor may want to change the dose, or other precautions may be necessary. Tell your healthcare professional if you are taking any other prescription or nonprescription (over-the-counter [OTC]) medicine.
Interactions with Food/Tobacco/Alcohol
Certain medicines should not be used at or around the time of eating food or eating certain types of food since interactions may occur. Using alcohol or tobacco with certain medicines may also cause interactions to occur. Discuss with your healthcare professional the use of your medicine with food, alcohol, or tobacco.

Synalar
30/06/10
Generic Name: fluocinolone topical (floo oh SIN oh lone TOP i kal)
Brand Names: Capex, Flurosyn, Synalar
What is fluocinolone topical?
Fluocinolone is a topical (for the skin) steroid. It reduces the actions of chemicals in the body that cause inflammation, redness, and swelling.
Fluocinolone topical is used to treat the inflammation and itching caused by a number of skin conditions such as allergic reactions, eczema, seborrhea, and psoriasis.
Fluocinolone topical may also be used for other purposes not listed in this medication guide.
What is the most important information I should know about fluocinolone topical?
Use this medication exactly as directed on the label, or as it has been prescribed by your doctor. Do not use the medication in larger amounts or for longer than recommended. Topical steroid medicine can be absorbed through the skin, which may cause steroid side effects throughout the body.
Do not cover treated skin areas with a bandage or other covering unless your doctor has told you to. Plastic film covering (such as plastic wrap) is sometimes used when treating psoriasis. Follow your doctor’s instructions.
If you are treating the diaper area of a baby, do not use plastic pants or tight-fitting diapers. Covering the skin that is treated with fluocinolone topical can increase the amount of medicine your skin absorbs, which may lead to unwanted side effects.
Do not use this medication on a child without a doctor’s advice. Children are more likely to absorb large amounts of a topical steroid through the skin. Steroid absorption in children may cause unwanted side effects, or a delay in growth with long-term use. Talk with your doctor if you think your child is not growing at a normal rate while using this medication over a long treatment period. Contact your doctor if your condition does not improve, or if you develop signs of a skin infection.
What should I discuss with my healthcare provider before using fluocinolone topical?
Do not use this medication if you are allergic to fluocinolone.
Before using fluocinolone topical, tell your doctor if you are allergic to any drugs, or if you have any type of skin infection.
Also tell your doctor if you have diabetes. Topical steroid medicines absorbed through the skin may increase the glucose (sugar) levels in your blood or urine.
FDA pregnancy category C. This medication may be harmful to an unborn baby. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant during treatment. It is not known whether fluocinolone topical passes into breast milk or if it could harm a nursing baby. Do not use this medication without telling your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby.
How should I use fluocinolone topical?
Use this medication exactly as directed on the label, or as it has been prescribed by your doctor. Do not use the medication in larger amounts or for longer than recommended. Topical steroid medicine can be absorbed through the skin, which may cause steroid side effects throughout the body.
Do not cover treated skin areas with a bandage or other covering unless your doctor has told you to. If you are treating the diaper area of a baby, do not use plastic pants or tight-fitting diapers.
Covering the skin that is treated with fluocinolone topical can increase the amount of medicine your skin absorbs, which may lead to unwanted side effects. However, plastic film covering (such as plastic wrap or a shower cap) is sometimes used when treating psoriasis. Follow your doctor’s instructions.
Wash your hands before and after using fluocinolone topical, unless you are using the medication to treat the skin on your hands.
Apply a small amount of the medicine to the affected area and rub it gently into the skin. Do not use this medication over a large area of skin.
If you are using the shampoo form of this medication, apply a small amount (1 ounce or less) to wet hair and work into a lather. Leave the shampoo on the scalp for 5 minutes and then rinse thoroughly.
Contact your doctor if your skin condition does not improve, if it gets worse, or if you develop signs of a skin infection.
To be sure this medication is not causing harmful effects with long-term use, you may need blood tests. Do not miss any scheduled appointments.
Store fluocinolone topical at room temperature away from moisture and heat.
What happens if I miss a dose?
Use the medication as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and use the medicine at the next regularly scheduled time. Do not use extra medicine to make up the missed dose.
What happens if I overdose?
Seek emergency medical attention if you think you have used too much of this medicine.
An overdose of fluocinolone topical is not expected to produce life-threatening symptoms. However, long-term use of high steroid doses can lead to symptoms such as thinning skin, easy bruising, changes in the shape or location of body fat (especially in your face, neck, back, and waist), increased acne or facial hair, menstrual problems, impotence, or loss of interest in sex.
What should I avoid while using fluocinolone topical?
Fluocinolone topical should not be used to treat any skin condition your doctor has not prescribed it for.
Avoid getting this medication in your eyes. If contact does occur, rinse with water. Do not use fluocinolone topical on broken or infected skin. Also avoid using this medication in open wounds.
Fluocinolone topical side effects
Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. Stop using this medication and call your doctor at once if you have severe irritation of any treated skin, or if you show signs of absorbing fluocinolone topical through your skin, such as:
-
blurred vision, or seeing halos around lights;
-
mood changes;
-
sleep problems (insomnia);
-
weight gain, puffiness in your face; or
-

-
skin rash or irritation around your mouth;
-
swollen hair follicles;
-
changes in color of treated skin;
-

-
stretch marks.
This is not a complete list of side effects and others may occur. Tell your doctor about any unusual or bothersome side effect. You may report side effects to FDA at 1-800-FDA-1088.
What other drugs will affect fluocinolone topical?
It is not likely that other drugs you take orally or inject will have an effect on topically applied fluocinolone topical. But many drugs can interact with each other. Tell your doctor about all your prescription and over-the-counter medications, vitamins, minerals, herbal products, and drugs prescribed by other doctors. Do not start a new medication without telling your doctor.

SymTan A
30/06/10
Generic Name: brompheniramine, hydrocodone, and pseudoephedrine (brom fen EER a meen, hye droe KOE dohn, soo doe e FED rin)
Brand Names: Anaplex HD, Bromcomp HC, Bromph HD, Bromplex HD, BroveX HC, Drocon-CS, Endacof HC, J-Tan D HC, M-END, SymTan A, Visvex
What is SymTan A (brompheniramine, hydrocodone, and pseudoephedrine)?
Brompheniramine is an antihistamine that reduces the natural chemical histamine in the body. Histamine can produce symptoms of sneezing, itching, watery eyes, and runny nose.
Hydrocodone is in a group of drugs called narcotics and is similar to codeine. Hydrocodone is a cough suppressant that affects the signals in the brain that trigger cough reflex.
Pseudoephedrine is a decongestant that shrinks blood vessels in the nasal passages. Dilated blood vessels can cause nasal congestion (stuffy nose).
The combination of brompheniramine, hydrocodone, and pseudoephedrine is used to treat cough, sneezing, itching, watery eyes, runny nose, stuffy nose, and sinus congestion caused by allergies, the common cold, or the flu.
Brompheniramine, hydrocodone, and pseudoephedrine may also be used for other purposes not listed in this medication guide.
What is the most important information I should know about SymTan A (brompheniramine, hydrocodone, and pseudoephedrine)?
Always ask a doctor before giving a cough or cold medicine to a child. Death can occur from the misuse of cough and cold medicines in very young children. Do not take this medication with alcohol, other narcotic pain medications, sedatives, tranquilizers, muscle relaxers, or other medicines that can make you sleepy or slow your breathing. Dangerous side effects may result. Hydrocodone may be habit-forming and should be used only by the person it was prescribed for. Hydrocodone should never be shared with another person, especially someone who has a history of drug abuse or addiction. Keep the medication in a secure place where others cannot get to it. Hydrocodone is a drug of abuse and you should be aware if any person in the household is using this medicine improperly or without a prescription. Do not use any other over-the-counter cough, cold, allergy, or sleep medication without first asking your doctor or pharmacist. If you take certain products together you may accidentally take too much of one or more types of medicine. Read the label of any other medicine you are using to see if it contains an antihistamine, decongestant, or cough suppressant. This medication can cause side effects that may impair your thinking or reactions. Be careful if you drive or do anything that requires you to be awake and alert.
What should I discuss with my healthcare provider before taking SymTan A (brompheniramine, hydrocodone, and pseudoephedrine)?
Do not use this medication if you are allergic to hydrocodone or other narcotic pain relievers such as fentanyl (Actiq, Duragesic), hydromorphone (Dilaudid, Palladone), methadone (Methadose, Dolophine), morphine (Kadian, MS Contin, Oramorph, and others), oxycodone (OxyContin), and oxymorphone (Opana). Do not use a cough or cold medicine if you have used an MAO inhibitor such as isocarboxazid (Marplan), phenelzine (Nardil), rasagiline (Azilect), selegiline (Eldepryl, Emsam), or tranylcypromine (Parnate) within the past 14 days. Serious, life-threatening side effects can occur if you take cough or cold medicine before the MAO inhibitor has cleared from your body.
Before taking brompheniramine, hydrocodone, and pseudoephedrine, tell your doctor if you are allergic to any drugs, or if you have:
-
kidney or liver disease;
-
heart disease or high blood pressure;
-
enlarged prostate or urination problems;
-
diabetes;
-
glaucoma;
-
a thyroid disorder;
-
asthma, COPD, sleep apnea, or other breathing disorders;
-
a history of head injury or brain tumor;
-
epilepsy or other seizure disorder;
-
low blood pressure;
-
gallbladder disease;
-
Addison’s disease or other adrenal gland disorders;
-
mental illness; or
-
a history of drug or alcohol addiction.
If you have any of these conditions, you may need a dose adjustment or special tests to safely take this medication.
FDA pregnancy category C. Hydrocodone may be harmful to an unborn baby, and could cause addiction or withdrawal symptoms in a newborn. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant during treatment. This medication may pass into breast milk and could harm a nursing baby. Do not use this medication without telling your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby.
How should I take SymTan A (brompheniramine, hydrocodone, and pseudoephedrine)?
Take this medication exactly as it was prescribed for you. Do not take the medication in larger amounts, or take it for longer than recommended by your doctor. Follow the directions on your prescription label. Cough or cold medicine is usually taken for only a short time until your symptoms clear up.
Always ask a doctor before giving cough or cold medicine to a child. Death can occur from the misuse of cough or cold medicine in very young children.
Measure the liquid form of this medicine with a special dose-measuring spoon or cup, not a regular table spoon. If you do not have a dose-measuring device, ask your pharmacist for one.
Talk with your doctor if your symptoms do not improve after 7 days of treatment, or if you have a fever with a headache, cough, or skin rash.
If you need to have any type of surgery, tell the surgeon ahead of time if you have taken a cold medicine within the past few days.
This medication can cause you to have unusual results with allergy skin tests. Tell any doctor who treats you that you are taking an antihistamine.
Store this medicine at room temperature, away from heat, light, and moisture.
What happens if I miss a dose?
Since cough or cold medicine is usually taken only as needed, you may not be on a dosing schedule. If you are taking the medication regularly, take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take the medicine at your next regularly scheduled time. Do not take extra medicine to make up the missed dose.
What happens if I overdose?
Seek emergency medical attention if you think you have used too much of this medicine. An overdose of hydrocodone can be fatal. Overdose symptoms may include extreme dizziness or drowsiness, confusion, feeling restless or nervous, cold and clammy skin, warmth or tingly feeling, nausea, vomiting, slow or shallow breathing, slow heart rate, pinpoint pupils, fainting, seizure (convulsions), or coma.
What should I avoid while taking SymTan A (brompheniramine, hydrocodone, and pseudoephedrine)?
This medication can cause side effects that may impair your thinking or reactions. Be careful if you drive or do anything that requires you to be awake and alert.
Avoid becoming overheated or dehydrated during exercise and in hot weather.
Do not drink alcohol while you are taking this medication. Alcohol can increase some of the side effects of brompheniramine, hydrocodone, and pseudoephedrine. Do not take this medication with other narcotic pain medications, sedatives, tranquilizers, muscle relaxers, or other medicines that can make you sleepy or slow your breathing. Life-threatening side effects may result.
Avoid taking diet pills, caffeine pills, or other stimulants (such as ADHD medications) without your doctor’s advice. Taking a stimulant together with a decongestant can increase your risk of unpleasant side effects.
Do not use any other over-the-counter cough, cold, allergy, or sleep medication without first asking your doctor or pharmacist. Brompheniramine and pseudoephedrine are contained in many medicines available over the counter. If you take certain products together you may accidentally take too much of one or more types of medicine. Read the label of any other medicine you are using to see if it contains brompheniramine or pseudoephedrine.

Synagis
30/06/10
Generic Name: palivizumab (PAL i VIZ oo mab)
Brand Names: Synagis
What is palivizumab?
Palivizumab is a man-made antibody to respiratory syncytial (sin-SISH-ul) virus (RSV). RSV can cause serious illness in children. Palivizumab helps keep RSV cells from multiplying in the body.
Palivizumab is used to prevent serious lung disease caused by respiratory syncytial virus in premature infants, and infants born with certain lung disorders or heart disease.
Palivizumab will not treat a child who is already sick with RSV disease.
Palivizumab may also be used for other purposes not listed in this medication guide.
What is the most important information I should know about palivizumab?
Palivizumab should not be given to a child who has had a severe allergic reaction to it.
Before your child receives a palivizumab injection, tell your doctor if the child has a bleeding or blood-clotting disorder; or a low level of platelets in the blood.
Do not use this medicine at home if you do not fully understand how to give the injection and properly dispose of used needles and syringes.
Call your doctor at once if your child has a serious side effect such as high fever, ear pain or drainage, warmth or swelling of the ear; crying or fussiness, change in appetite or sleeping patterns, easy bruising or bleeding, or trouble breathing.
Call your doctor for instructions if you miss an appointment for your child’s palivizumab injection.
What should I discuss with my healthcare provider before receiving palivizumab?
Palivizumab should not be given to a child who has had a severe allergic reaction to it.
If your child has any of these other conditions, he or she may need a dose adjustment or special tests to safely use this medication:
-
a bleeding or blood clotting disorder; or
-
a low level of platelets in the blood.
It is not known whether palivizumab is harmful to use while pregnant or breast-feeding. Although this medication is generally not used in adults, a woman of child-bearing age who is treated with palivizumab should tell her doctor if she is pregnant or breast-feeding.
How is palivizumab given?
Palivizumab is given once a month during the RSV season, which is usually November through April but may be different where you live. Your child’s doctor will tell you when the medication should be given.
Palivizumab is given as an injection into a muscle. A doctor, nurse, or other healthcare provider will give this injection. You may be shown how to use the medicine at home. Do not self-inject this medicine if you do not fully understand how to give the injection and properly dispose of used needles and syringes.
Each single-use vial (bottle) of this medicine is for one use only. Throw away the vial after one use, even if there is still some medicine left in it after injecting your dose.
Use each disposable needle only one time. Throw away used needles in a puncture-proof container (ask your pharmacist where you can get one and how to dispose of it). Keep this container out of the reach of children and pets.
Do not shake the medication vial (bottle). Vigorous shaking can ruin the medicine. Do not draw the palivizumab dose into a syringe until you are ready to give an injection. Do not use the medication if it has changed colors or has any particles in it. Call your doctor for a new prescription. If you keep this medication at home, store it in the refrigerator. Do not freeze. Do not use the medication if the expiration date on the label has passed.
What happens if I miss a dose?
Call your doctor for instructions if you miss an appointment for your child’s palivizumab injection.
What happens if I overdose?
Seek emergency medical attention if you think your child has received too much of this medicine.
Symptoms of a palivizumab overdose are not known.
What should I avoid while receiving palivizumab?
Follow your doctor’s instructions about any restrictions on food, beverages, or activity.
